Genoa is a working port whose old town is a maze of caruggi — medieval alleys — opening onto the Palazzi dei Rolli, a UNESCO-listed circuit of aristocratic houses. Renzo Piano rebuilt the waterfront around the aquarium. Boccadasse, a fishing village inside the city, closes the walk.
